Crowd chants ‘fake news,’ ‘CNN sucks’ amid Trump calls for unity

President Trump’s attacks on “fake polls” were met with shouts of “fake news” and “CNN sucks” during his remarks at the Young Black Leadership Summit.

Trump started his remarks by making a call for national unity in light of explosive devices being sent to Democrats and former intelligence officials.

{mosads}“The bottom line is that Americans must unify. We must show the world that we are united together in peace and love and harmony as fellow American citizens. There is no country like our country and every day we are showing the world just how truly great we are,” the president said.

However, after attacking what he called “fake polls,” members of the crowd responded by shouting “fake news” and “CNN sucks.”

The comments come after Florida resident Cesar Sayoc Jr. was arrested in connection with the mailing of 12 explosive devices that were addressed to various Democrats and former intelligence officials, including two that were sent to CNN’s offices in New York City.

Two devices were found Friday morning that were addressed to Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. The one addressed to Clapper was sent to the CNN offices in New York, where he is a contributor.

Other devices were sent to Democratic donor George Soros, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Obama, former Attorney General Eric Holder, former CIA Director John Brennan at the CNN offices in New York, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro.

Every addressee has criticized — and been criticized by the Trump administration.

“I think anyone who has in any way publicly been a critic of President Trump needs to be on extra alert and take precautions with respect to mail. At the same time we shouldn’t get too overblown about it, to overwrought about it … at this point. I have a lot of confidence in all the law enforcement elements involved in this,” Clapper said on CNN after the package addressed to him was discovered.

None of explosive devices have detonated and no injuries have been reported.
