Trump Jr. to campaign in West Virginia for Manchin challenger

President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is set to campaign in West Virginia on Monday on behalf of Senate candidate Patrick Morrisey (R), who is trailing Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in the polls

This will be Trump Jr.’s second campaign rally for the Morrisey, who is the state’s attorney general. Trump Jr. has presented Morrisey as an anti-establishment alternate to Manchin, a blue lawmaker in a state that went for President Trump by double-digits.

{mosads}Trump Jr. during the first event for Morrisey in June called Manchin “part of” the D.C. “swamp” that his father has promised to drain.

“That’s what Trumpism was all about, which is taking on that establishment, not just doing that,” Trump Jr. said, according to local news station WSAZ. “Maybe he started off 10 years ago and he may have been great, but now he’s become part of that swamp.”

Trump Jr. also ripped Manchin after he offered his support for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh ahead of a confirmation vote. Trump Jr. questioned Manchin’s timing because the Democrat did not offer his support until Kavanaugh had the votes needed for confirmation.

Trump Jr.’s “get out the vote” rally with the candidate on Monday will come days after Vice President Pence holds his own rally for Morrisey, the state’s attorney general.

President Trump has held two rallies for Morrisey and the vice president held a fundraiser for him in July.

A recent survey found that 46 percent of likely voters in West Virginia support Manchin, while 38 percent are backing Morrisey.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report slightly favors Manchin in the race, rating it as leaning Democrat.
