President Trump and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s husband sparred over Twitter Wednesday.

“‘Trump could be the most honest president in modern history. When you look at the real barometer of presidential truthfulness, which is promise keeping, he is probably the most honest president in American history. He’s done exactly what he said he would do.’ Marc Thiessen, WPost,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

Thiessen is a former speechwriter to George W. Bush’s administration.

George Conway, who has been a frequent critic of the president, fired back using another sentence from Thiessen’s piece.

{mosads}”In the second sentence of the same opinion piece, Thiessen also said, ‘Don’t get me wrong, Trump lies all the time,'” Conway quipped.

In his piece titled, “Trump could be the most honest president in modern history,” Thiessen argues that the president is “a paragon of honesty” when it comes to doing what he promised to do.

Thiessen admits that Trump inflates the value of his accomplishments — such as bragging that he enacted the “biggest tax cuts and reforms in American history.”

But the columnist argued that Trump is far more honest than most presidents, particularly his predecessor, President Obama.

Thiessen cites Trump’s promises to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, which many presidents have promised but never completed, as well as Trump’s promise to “crush and destroy ISIS.” Theissen says the U.S. is now on the verge of eliminating the terrorist group.

“When Trump says he will do something, you can take it to the bank.”

“Yes, he takes liberties with the truth,” he explains. “But unlike his predecessor, he did not pass his signature legislative achievement on the basis of a lie (‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it ‘) — which is clearly worse than falsely bragging that your tax cut is the biggest ever.”
