Kelly called Warren ‘impolite,’ ‘arrogant:’ report

White House chief of staff John Kelly ripped into Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) in an email to a staffer last year after a conversation with the senator concerning President Trump’s travel ban, BuzzFeed reports.

In an email chain following a conversation with Warren about several constituents detained in Boston’s Logan Airport under the travel ban despite having visas, Kelly, then the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, described Warren as “arrogant” and “impolite” to a subordinate.

{mosads}“Absolutely most insulting conversation I have ever had with anyone,” wrote Kelly in the email obtained by BuzzFeed News.

“What an impolite arrogant woman. She immediately began insulting our people accusing them of not following the court order, insulting and abusive behavior towards those covered by the pause, blah blah blah,” he added, apparently mocking Warren’s concerns.

Kevin Carroll, the department’s senior counsel, responded. “Too bad Senate Majority Leader McConnell couldn’t order her to be quiet again!” he said, referring to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) use of Senate rules to silence the senator during a speech, a moment that quickly went viral.

“Warren is running for president so early, trying too hard, and chasing bad pitches,” Carroll added.

Warren’s office and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday night on the emails. Kelly would be named White House chief of staff following the exit of Reince Priebus in July of that year.

The Massachusetts Democrat is a frequent target of Trump, who often attacks the liberal senator with the racially-charged “Pocahontas” epithet referring to her claims of Native American ancestry.
