Ann Coulter defends Sessions, tells Trump to direct ‘venom’ elsewhere

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter on Tuesday defended Attorney General Jeff Sessions against President Trump’s latest swipe, urging the president to direct his “Twitter venom” elsewhere.

“How about directing some of this Twitter venom toward [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell [R-Ky.], the man who is wrecking your presidency, rather than the AG who’s saving it,” Coulter tweeted in response to Trump.

Coulter’s comment came in response to a tweet from Trump in which he quoted a Fox Business host claiming that the Department of Justice (DOJ) under Sessions was no different than the DOJ during the Obama administration.

Coulter has previously pushed back on Trump’s comments criticizing his attorney general, telling the president last year to “be a man” if he didn’t want Sessions to continue in his administration and fire him.

{mosads}Trump’s tweet Tuesday was the latest in a series of increasing barbs directed at his attorney general in recent months. Trump has said Sessions will serve in his post until at least the November midterm elections.

Coulter argued that Trump should instead be focused on McConnell, whom she and other right-leaning commentators have also long blamed for what they perceive as a lack of progress in passing conservative legislation.

Coulter continued to rip into the GOP leader on Tuesday, replying to Trump’s criticism of Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) sarcastically.

“If ONLY you had some ally in the U.S. senate, some tiny crevice where GOPS could get a toehold. Who’s the Senate Majority Leader again?” she tweeted.

Coulter was an early backer of Trump, publishing a book in 2016 praising him, “In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!”

She has since become a vocal critic of his administration, slamming his efforts to uphold key immigration promises.
