GOP lawmaker: ‘I don’t care if Trump misspeaks’
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) said Wednesday that he “doesn’t care” if President Trump misspeaks — including about Russia.
Hunter, speaking a day after Trump sought to walk back controversial remarks made at the side of Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a misstatement, said the president’s actions make up for any errant comments.
“He’s doing things that are a direct affront to Russia. I don’t care if he misspeaks or if he says the wrong thing,” Hunter said on “Fox & Friends.”
“He has a different technique, that’s why I voted for him, that’s why the American people elected him,” the lawmaker said of Trump.

He added that Trump “doesn’t want to act like one of those guys who you just played talking here, saying all of those words.”
“What he wants to do is go get things done. I have no problem with it. My trust is in the commander in chief,” Hunter said.

Trump faced criticism from Republicans and Democrats for siding with Putin’s denials of election interference during a press conference Monday, contradicting U.S. intelligence’s findings.
The president said Tuesday that he misspoke during the press conference, claiming he meant to say he didn’t “see any reason why it wouldn’t be” Russia that interfered in the election, instead of “any reason why it would be” Russia.
