Eric Holder: Trump administration has ‘brought shame to the nation’ with family separations

Former Attorney General Eric Holder tore into the Trump administration late Tuesday for its zero-tolerance immigration policy, which is separating migrant parents and children.

“Trump Administration is detaining babies and toddlers in ‘tender age shelters’ who may never be reunited with their parents,” Holder tweeted with a sketch of President Lincoln holding his head in his hands.

“Babies. Babies. You have brought shame to the nation. We are better than this,” he added.

President Trump has tried to blame the previous administration for the policy, something Holder blasted as “nonsense” last month.

{mosads} “This is a policy determination that this administration has made, to separate children from families, as a way to try to thwart people who are trying to come into this country either illegally or seeking asylum,” Holder said during an address at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions implemented a “zero-tolerance” policy for illegal U.S.-Mexico border crossings earlier this year.

The policy has led to parents being separated from their children during criminal prosecutions.

The Associated Press reported late Tuesday that the Trump administration is operating three “tender age” shelters for undocumented babies and toddlers.

Trump has continually blamed Democrats for his administration’s policy of separating migrant families.

“Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13,” Trump wrote in a tweet Tuesday.  “They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!”
