Poll: Melania Trump approval drops

First Lady Melania Trump’s approval rating dropped significantly this month, according to a CNN poll released Tuesday.

The first lady’s 51 percent approval rating is down from May, when she had a 57 percent approval rating, CNN says.

Her unfavorable rating is currently at 29 percent, up from 27 percent in May.

The survey was conducted from June 14 to June 17, one month after Trump was hospitalized for a kidney procedure. Following her procedure, the first lady did not make public appearances for more than 25 days.

Before her procedure and time away from the public eye, Trump had announced her “Be Best” initiative to promote children’s well-being and raise awareness about the effects of cyberbullying and opioids on young people. She had also recently hosted her first state dinner for French President Emmanuel Macron.

Trump’s May approval rating had been a 10-point improvement from January when 47 percent of Americans said they had a favorable opinion of the first lady.

The first lady’s approval rating is still higher than President Trump’s, which a CNN poll has at 39 percent.

The CNN poll surveyed 1,012 people and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
