Kellyanne Conway on White House departures: ‘Get with the program or get out’

Counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway on Friday commented on the recent spate of White House departures, one day after President Trump announced he would replace H.R. McMaster as his national security adviser.

In an interview on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends,” Conway said members of President Trump’s administration need to “get with the program or get out.”

“It’s his agenda. If people support it, they should be here; if they’re not with the program, you should get with the program or get out,” she said.

Conway added that her comment “doesn’t mean blind loyalty.”

“This is a man who takes into consideration everybody’s different inputs and ideas, and that makes him a wonderful leader and a terrific boss,” she said.

McMaster is the most recent in a series of high-level White House departures. Trump on Thursday announced on Twitter that he would replace McMaster with former United States Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton.

Trump also fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson earlier this month, announcing he would replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Senior economic adviser Gary Cohn also left the White House this month over disagreements with the president over tariffs. Larry Kudlow has been tapped by Trump to be Cohn’s replacement.

Kudlow and Bolton are both frequent commentators in conservative media.

Conway said she thinks it’s “kind of weird” for people to comment on Trump’s hiring of conservative media personalities. It is well-known that the president often watches Fox News, and particularly “Fox and Friends.”

She noted that Bolton and Kudlow are both accomplished and are joining the administration out of a desire to “serve the nation.”

“They are men of intellectual heft and substantial accomplishments in their respective fields,” she said. “This country should be pleased when people who don’t need another chapter in their illustrious careers want to come in and serve the nation.”
