Nunberg apologizes to Huckabee Sanders over ‘fat slob’ remark

Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg apologized Tuesday after insulting White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders during a media appearance.

The Daily Caller reports that Nunberg said he made a “rude comment” on Monday during an interview with New York City-based NY1.

In the interview, he referred to Huckabee Sanders as a “fat slob” and “unattractive” after the White House dismissed his comments on possible collusion between the president and Russia.

“It was wrong of me to attack Sarah,” Nunberg told The Daily Caller. “Sarah’s very talented. It was a rude comment. I understand she was just doing her job, and I think she does a very good job under rough circumstances. … I owe her an apology. I was having a rough day.”

Nunberg told the right-leaning website that he was not “on any substances” during his multiple media appearances on CNN, MSNBC and other outlets.

“I was not on any substances,” he said. “Look, I’ll tell it to you this way: Everything I have to go through now — I’m smart enough not to involve alcohol. You don’t want to be involved in alcohol.”

During the media appearances, Nunberg made several wild claims including that he thinks Trump “may” have done something illegal during the campaign and that he would not comply with a subpoena issued by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office. Nunberg later retracted that statement.

Sanders responded to the comment about Trump at the White House press briefing on Monday.

“I definitely think he doesn’t know that for sure because he’s incorrect,” Sanders said. “As we said many times before, there was no collusion with the Trump campaign. Anything further on what his actions are — he hasn’t worked at the White House. I can’t speak to him or the lack of knowledge that he clearly has.”
