Pence blasts media for ‘fawning’ North Korean coverage

Vice President Pence on Thursday chastised the media for its “fawning” coverage of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un’s sister, and defended his conduct during a recent trip to South Korea for the Winter Olympics.

“For all the media fawning over the sister of the North Korean dictator, I think it’s important that every American knows who this person is and what she’s done,” Pence said at the Conservative Political Action Conference, an annual conservative gathering outside of Washington, D.C.

“The sister of Kim Jong Un is a central pillar of the most tyrannical and oppressive regime on the planet,” he added. “An evil family clique that brutalizes, subjugates, starves and imprisons its 25 million people.”

Pence on Thursday also pushed back on those who criticized him for not standing when the unified Korean team entered the opening ceremonies.

“For all those in the media who think I should have stood and cheered with the North Koreans, I say: The United States of America doesn’t stand with murderous dictatorships. The United States of America stands up to murderous dictatorships,” he said to loud cheers.
