Sally Yates: Watch out for ghosts at Mar-a-Lago

Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates is defending the FBI in response to President Trump’s attacks on the law enforcement agency — and specifically Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

Yates in a tweet on Sunday said the Secret Service should be on the look out for three ghosts at Mar-a-Lago given Trump’s tweet earlier in the day targeting McCabe.

The nod to “A Christmas Carol” was a relatively rare tweet for Yates, who has only 14 published tweets on her account.

Yates was appointed deputy attorney general by former President Obama and remained in the role in the beginning days of Trump’s administration.

{mosads}She was fired by Trump after she refused to implement his initial travel ban on a number of predominantly Muslim countries.

Trump in recent weeks has stepped up his attacks on the FBI, where he argues officials loyal to former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump also fired, have exhibited bias.

Many of Trump’s attacks have focused on McCabe, who is also a target of Trump allies in Congress. McCabe faced 17 hours of testimony from two separate committees last week.

McCabe’s wife was a candidate for a Virginia Senate seat in 2015, and in the process, received hundreds of thousands in campaign donations from a political action committee with ties to Hillary and Bill Clinton. He was also involved in probes of Hillary Clinton, including the investigation of her use of a private email server as secretary of State.

Reports circulated over the weekend that McCabe may retire soon, which Trump seized upon.
