Trump: It’s a ‘special time’ for women ‘because a lot of things are coming out’

President Trump said Tuesday he believes it’s good for society and for women that people are sharing stories of sexual harassment, though he downplayed allegations of sexual misconduct against Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore.

“Women are very special, I think it’s a very special time because a lot of things are coming out and I think that’s good for our society and I think it’s very, very good for women, and I’m very happy a lot of these things are coming out, and I’m very happy it’s being exposed,” Trump told reporters.

Trump was answering questions before departing for Florida, where he’ll be spending Thanksgiving. 

{mosads}In the same appearance, Trump appeared to throw his support behind Moore, despite the allegations of sexual misconduct against the Alabama Senate candidate. Several women have accused Moore of sexual misconduct, including assault, when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s.

“He denies it. He totally denies it,” Trump said of the accusations, noting the alleged incidents took place about 40 years ago.

He added that “we don’t need a liberal Democrat in the seat,” referring to Moore’s opponent, Democrat Doug Jones.

Several allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced during the 2016 presidential campaign against Trump, who has denied them.

Two women have in the last week accused Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) of groping them without their consent.

The White House said last week that the difference between accusations against Franken and Trump is that Franken admitted wrongdoing, and the president hasn’t. 

Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) is facing allegations of sexual misconduct following a BuzzFeed News report Monday night.
