Poll: Trump rates best on economy, though majority still disapproves

A new poll shows that President Trump draws his highest approval ratings on the economy, though a slim majority of those polled still disapprove of the president’s handling of it.

Fifty-one percent of those surveyed say they do not approve of how Trump is handling the economy as president, while 45 percent say they approve, according to a new poll released Monday by Gallup.

Trump’s job approval rating across the board is at 37 percent, while 59 percent say they do not approve of the job he is doing in the White House.

Taxes provide Trump with his second highest policy numbers, 37 percent, which comes as both the House and Senate pursue tax reform legislation. Still, 55 percent do not approve of how Trump is dealing with taxes.

The president’s lowest approval rating is for health care, on which only 31 percent approve of the job he is doing. Sixty-four percent do not approve of Trump’s job performance on health care. These numbers come after repeated failed Republican attempts to repeal and replace ObamaCare, which was one of Trump’s signature promises during his campaign.

The poll of 1,028 individuals over the age of 18 was conducted from Nov. 2 to 8 across the country. It has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
