Harry Reid: Health care ‘ruined’ by Trump

Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) attacked President Trump at the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) fall meeting on Saturday, blaming the president for “ruining” health care in America.

In a surprise appearance at the DNC’s general session, Reid attacked Trump for his repeated promises to let ObamaCare “implode.”

{mosads}”Health care has basically been ruined by Trump,” Reid said, according to Politico’s Gabriel Debenedetti.

Reid also attacked White House chief of staff John Kelly for his response to Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), who claimed this week that Trump was disrespectful to the widow of a fallen soldier over the phone.

“Congresswoman Wilson, look what they tried to do to this woman. She has spent her life helping people,” Reid reportedly said. “Truth overcomes.”

“I would hope that they would stop sending this four-star general out and put him back where he belongs: trying to control Trump,” he added.

Wilson said the president told the widow her late husband “knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway.” Johnson’s mother told The Washington Post that the president disrespected the family with his call.

The White House later appeared to confirm what Trump said during the call but has accused Wilson of politicizing a “sacred” issue.

Reid’s surprise appearance at the DNC meeting, where he was not scheduled to appear, comes just days after he told The Nevada Independent that he expects Democrats to retake the Senate in 2018, calling it “very probable.”

“We’re two short in the Senate, and I think it’s very probable that we’ll be able to retake the Senate. And I have felt much better about the House in recent weeks,” Reid said in the interview.

“There’s no question in my mind that this election coming up in 2018 is going to be a change election,” he added.
