Trump heads to golf course with one-time foe Graham

President Trump headed to his Virginia golf course on Monday with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a former campaign foe and frequent critic.

The two men plan to play golf at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., if the rain in the greater Washington area subsides.

Trump will indeed “be golfing with Sen. Graham today,” a White House staffer told a reporter at the course.

The president and longtime South Carolina lawmaker have sometimes had a contentious relationship. The two were deeply critical of each other during the 2016 presidential primary.

Over the summer, they feuded over Trump’s response to racially-charged violence in Charlottesville, Va.

Graham told Trump that his claim there was violence “on many sides” fueled the controversy and that it was the president’s responsibility to “fix this.” Trump accused the “publicity seeking” senator of “falsely stat[ing] that I said there is moral equivalency between the KKK, neo-Nazis & white supremacists.”

Trump and Graham became allies last month during the Senate’s last-ditch push to repeal ObamaCare with a bill co-authored by Graham.

Monday’s outing comes hours after the White House rolled out a series of hard-line immigration proposals it wants in exchange for its support of a fix for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. The Obama-era program, which Trump is rescinding, protects young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

Graham is pushing for a bipartisan bill, known as the DREAM Act, that would offer many DACA recipients a pathway to citizenship.

Monday is a federal holiday and the president does not have any public events on his schedule.
