Preet Bharara says he believes President Trump would have asked him “to do something inappropriate” if he had stayed on as U.S. attorney for New York as part of the Trump administration.
“Had I not been fired, and had Donald Trump continued to cultivate a direct personal relationship with me, it’s my strong belief at some point, given the history, the president of the United States would’ve asked me to do something inappropriate,” Bharara said on the first episode of his new podcast, according to CNN.
{mosads}“And I would’ve resigned then. I don’t know for a fact, but that’s my strong belief.”
Bharara was fired by Trump three months into his administration after he refused to resign.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions had asked 46 federal prosecutors appointed by former President Obama to resign in May, but Bharara had refused to.
Bharara gave what he called the “most thorough” account of his firing on the first episode of his new podcast, “Stay Tuned with Preet.”
Bharara was also hired by CNN as a legal analyst on Wednesday, CNN announced.
