Trump urges Republican Senate to ‘step up to the plate’ and ‘WIN!’

President Trump on Saturday morning urged Republican senators to “step up to the plate” on his legislative agenda.

He upped the pressure on the GOP, placing responsibility to pass stalled healthcare legislation through the Senate and urging: “WIN!”

“The Republican Senators must step up to the plate and, after 7 years, vote to repeal and replace [ObamaCare],” he tweeted. “It is solely up to the 52 Republican senators!”

Trump suggested he’s eager to move on from healthcare to additional legislative priorities.

“Next, Tax Reform and Infrastructure,” he tweeted.

Senate GOP leadership is attempting to renegotiate their ObamaCare repeal and replace legislation while walking a fine line between moderates who oppose cuts to Medicaid and conservatives who want the bill to cleanly repeal former President Obama’s signature healthcare legislation.

The Senate expects to vote to proceed on a bill Tuesday, but as of the end of the week most senators were unclear what version of the legislation they would be voting on.

Republicans can’t afford to lose more than two Republican votes to pass the bill. 

Trump’s tweets on healthcare were some of nearly a dozen the president sent on Saturday, blasting leaks to the media as well as defending his son and new White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci.
