Scaramucci expected to be named WH comms director

President Trump is expected to name Wall Street financier and longtime supporter Anthony Scaramucci as his new White House communications director, according to multiple reports.

Trump has offered the job to Scaramucci and he has accepted it, ABC News reported. Reuters also reported the president offered him the post.

Reporters saw Scaramucci and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus gather in White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s office for a meeting of the communications team. {mosads}

Scaramucci would replace Mike Dubke, who resigned from the post in May. Spicer has been handling Dubke’s duties in the interim.

He joining a White House staff that has been beaten down over the widening probe into whether any Trump associates colluded with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The news of Scaramucci’s appointment to the position led to White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s resignation shortly afterward on Friday.

Trump requested that Spicer stay on, but Spicer declined to do so and told the president that hiring Scaramucci was a major mistake, The New York Times reported.

Scaramucci is the founder of the global investment firm SkyBridge Capital. It was previously thought the hedge fund manager would be appointed to lead the White House Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs under Trump, but he didn’t enter the position.

Scaramucci was also previously linked to the ambassador position to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development but ultimately was not named to that post. He currently serves as a senior vice president at the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
