Mueller asks WH staff to preserve all documents about Trump Jr. meeting: report

Special counsel Robert Mueller has requested that White House staff save all documents connected to Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in June 2016, CNN reports.

Mueller sent a document preservation request to the White House asking staff to preserve an array of communications pertaining to the meeting between Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and President Trump’s eldest son, such as text messages, notes and voicemails, according to CNN.

The meeting, which was set up by an intermediary in emails promising Trump Jr. damaging information from the Russian government about then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, was reported earlier this month. Along with Trump Jr. and Veselnitskaya, the meeting attendees included Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and an alleged former Soviet intelligence agent.

{mosads}The report comes as tensions mount between Trump and the special counsel while Mueller expands the probe. 

Trump warned Mueller not to delve into his past financial transactions during a New York Times interview on Wednesday. But Bloomberg reported on Thursday that Mueller was looking into the transactions.

Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to spearhead the investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election.
