Trump to hire new lawyer in response to Russia probes

President Trump will hire Washington lawyer Ty Cobb to manage the White House’s responses on the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Cobb will oversee legal and media responses from the White House on the investigation. A number of White House officials have weighed in on the issue, including Trump.

Trump had been rumored to be interested in hiring Cobb since earlier this month.

White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters said, “We have no announcement at this time.”

Trump previously faced allegations of obstruction of justice for his handling of the investigation and for his firing of FBI Director James Comey amidst a federal investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia.

Revelations that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer in an attempt to gather opposition research on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton emphasized the need for the Trump administration to address the collusion allegations.
