Mueller ‘won’t be surprised’ by Comey’s testimony: report

Special counsel Robert Mueller will not be surprised by former FBI Director James Comey’s upcoming testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to a new report.

Mueller’s team has been in contact with Comey ahead of his public remarks this Thursday, Politico reported Tuesday. The former FBI Director is expected to stick to past conversations with President Trump.

One of Comey’s friends told Politico that “there had been conversations” between the former FBI director and Mueller’s team.

“Mueller won’t be surprised,” the associate said.

Another associate said Comey would try “to just describe what happened with the president and how he felt about it.”

“[Comey] wants to correct the record, from his point of view, on certain things the president and his aides have said,” they added.

The New York Times on Tuesday reported that in February Comey told Attorney General Jeff Sessions he would rather not be alone with Trump.

Comey reportedly made the admission to Sessions after Trump asked him to end the probe of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Reports emerged last month that Trump pressed Comey on Feb. 14 to ease off the probe into Flynn, which Comey noted in a memo shortly after the meeting.

“I hope you can your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Trump told Comey, according to the memo.

Comey was abruptly fired by Trump in May.

Comey is set to testify this Thursday as part of the Senate Intelligence panel’s investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 race, including possible collusion between Moscow and Trump’s campaign.
