Trump asked Macron to swap cell phone numbers: report

President Trump reportedly asked newly-elected French President Emmanuel Macron to exchange cell phone numbers with him during their phone call after the French election.

CNN’s Jim Acosta reported that a French official told the news organization that Trump offered to swap cell phone numbers with Macron so they could “speak directly to each other.”

{mosads}Trump reportedly also mentioned Macron’s opponent, far-right nationalist candidate Marine Le Pen.

“I didn’t support this woman,” Trump said about Le Pen, according to CNN. While Trump never endorsed either candidate in the election, he did say that Le Pen was “the strongest on borders” prior to France’s election.

Trump congratulated Macron on his recent election victory on Thursday as the two leaders met in Brussels.

“It is my great honor to be with the newly elected president of France, who ran an incredible campaign and had a tremendous victory,” Trump said during brief remarks.

The two leaders shared an intense handshake Thursday after meeting for the first time at the NATO summit.
