Philadelphia Inquirer: Trump administration looks like a ‘tin-pot dictatorship’

The Philadelphia Inquirer in a new editorial compares the start of the Trump administration to a “tin-pot dictatorship.” 

“From spreading bald lies to suppressing basic facts and information, the early days of the Trump administration are suggestive of a tin-pot dictatorship,” its editors wrote on Thursday. “That’s not the look [President Trump] wants, and neither do most Americans.”

The Inquirer focused on Trump’s call on Wednesday for an investigation into voter fraud.

{mosads}“Despite little evidence to support his claims, Trump said on Wednesday he was asking for a ‘major investigation’ into voter fraud,” its editors wrote.

“It is beyond bizarre that more than two months after winning the election, Trump continues to allege voter fraud,” they added. “His agitation over losing the popular vote has turned him into a sore and distracted winner.”

“Every administration is free to set its own agenda. But the Trump administration is not free to say 2 + 2 = 5. This is no longer a reality TV show. Facts and the truth should rule policy debates.”

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have challenged Trump’s claim about rampant voter fraud, arguing no evidence exists to support such an accusation.

Trump on late Wednesday doubled down on his push for an investigation, saying there is “a lot to look into.”

“We’re going to launch an investigation to find out,” he said during an ABC News interview.
