The White House on Friday urged the Senate to pass the USA Freedom Act before taking a Memorial Day recess.
The legislation would reform the National Security Agency’s bulk data collection program.
{mosads}The measure passed the House with a strong bipartisan vote this week, but Senate Republican leaders are pushing to pass a clean extension of the Patriot Act without any changes to the NSA’s phone records program.
If Senators do not take up the NSA reform measure, “they will be weakening our nation’s security,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz said.
