Obama’s fundraising ‘Scandal’
The White House usually scoffs at reports of scandal within the Obama administration, but the president will seek it out later this month in California.
President Obama will travel to Los Angeles for a fundraiser at the home of “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes on July 23, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
{mosads}Kerry Washington, the star of the popular drama series, is serving on the host committee for the event, where ticket prices range from $1,000 to $32,400. Funds will benefit the Democratic National Committee, and top donors will meet the president and attend a dinner.
First lady Michelle Obama has admitted to binge-watching the show, which features Washington as a professional fixer carrying on an affair with the president.
“I watched all the seasons, I caught up on ‘Scandal,’ I had never watched it,” the first lady said in an interview with radio host Ryan Seacrest. “I love Kerry Washington, she is amazing, so it makes the show fun.”
Obama told TV host Ellen DeGeneres that he doesn’t watch the show but was skeptical of its portrayal of the nation’s capitol.
“I have to tell you, life in Washington is a little more boring than displayed on the screen,” he said.
The president previously named Rhimes to the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees.
It will be the second trip to California in a week for the president, who will deliver a graduation speech and hold a series of fundraisers in Orange County and Palm Springs over the weekend.
