Rep. Steven Horsford wins Democratic House primary in Nevada
Rep. Steven Horsford (Nev.) won the Democratic primary in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District as he runs for a second consecutive term in the House.
Horsford, a former leader in the Nevada state Senate, bested his nearest challenger by about 65 percent with nearly 49 percent of precincts reporting. He won his first term in 2018 by about 8 points in for an open seat.
The Republican primary has yet to be called.
The district has flipped between parties in recent cycles. Horsford first won a spot in Congress in 2012, only to be defeated by Republican Cresent Hardy in 2014. Hardy then lost to Democrat Ruben Kihuen in 2016, but Kihuen decided to not run for reelection in 2018, paving the way for Horsford’s return to the House.
The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election handicapper, rates the race as “likely Democratic.”
