Anti-Trump group argues former president couldn’t get job at local mall

Republican Voters Against Trump, a political group seeking to block former President Trump from taking back the White House, released an ad Tuesday suggesting that with his four criminal indictments, Trump could not even get a job at a local shopping mall.

The six-figure ad campaign used hidden-camera footage of a man going to several stores saying he was looking to apply for a job. The catch? He said he is facing 88 felonies.

The man in the film asked store managers if they would hire someone who has been found “liable of sexual assault” or someone who has tried to “overturn the 2020 election,” among other issues at the heart of Trump’s ongoing legal battles.

“If Trump is too big of a liability to get a job at your local mall, he is too big of a liability to be president of the United States,” the narrator said in the video.

According to the anti-Trump group, the ad will run nationally on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and Fox News’s “Fox & Friends,” and digitally in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The ad is running while Trump sits in a Manhattan courtroom amid his first criminal trial, which is centered on allegations that he falsified business records related to a payment he made to an adult film actress in 2016 in exchange for her silence about an alleged affair. He faces 34 charges in the hush money case alone and has pleaded not guilty to all of them.

Despite attempting to delay the trial past the November election, Trump — the presumptive GOP presidential nominee — made history last week as the first former or current U.S. president to face a criminal trial in the U.S.

The trial, which resumed Tuesday, is expected to last multiple weeks.

The advertisement is meant to target swing voters, not Trump’s MAGA base — a movement spun off his “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan — who support his defense in his legal battles, the group said.

“We’re sending the message that Donald Trump is unfit for office,” Gunner Ramer, the group’s political director, said in a statement. “If your local retailer won’t hire someone with Trump’s criminal record, why should the American people elect him to the nation’s highest office?”
