USA Today headquarters evacuated after report of armed person

USA Today’s headquarters in McLean, Va., were evacuated Wednesday after what authorities later said appeared to be a mistaken report of a person with a gun at the building.

A Fairfax County Police lieutenant told The Hill that no shots were fired and police tweeted in the afternoon that “at this time, we have found no evidence of any acts of violence or injuries.”

The Fairfax police chief later called the incident a “non-event” and said the building had been cleared.

A federal law enforcement official told USA Today that there was no indication of a shooting or shooter at the building, the newspaper reported.{mosads}

USA Today reported that the building’s alarms sounded and police squad cars arrived on the scene as authorities investigated the report.

Employees were seen standing outside the building, which is shared by several other offices, following the evacuation.
