Joy Behar, a co-host of ABC’s “The View,” compared Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) to former President Trump as she criticized the congresswoman’s rhetoric on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
“And it’s right, left, center. I’ve called it out when it’s on the right. So I’m going to call it out when it’s on the left, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar. They have dabbled in dangerous antisemitism at a time where, I think of the young people,” Alyssa Farah Griffin, another host of the popular daytime table talk program, said on Wednesday.
Before Griffin could finish, Behar interrupted and called out Tlaib specifically.
“She, Rashida, will not admit that that attack on the hospital came from Hamas. They have video showing it,” Behar said. “But she goes out there and lies … like Trump.”
Tlaib has come under fire for her statements on the conflict between Israel and Hamas, a militant group that carried out a bloody terrorist attack in Israel on Oct. 7 that left hundreds of Israelis dead.
The group is still holding a number of hostages in Gaza, some of which are believed to be Americans.
The Israeli government has responded to this month’s attack with a series of bombings in Gaza that have killed hundreds of Palestinian civilians in recent days. As it prepares for a major ground offensive, a massive blast at a hospital in Gaza last week sparked a new level of outrage amid the fighting.
In the U.S., the fighting has inflamed tensions over Israel’s control over Palestinian territories with Progressive lawmakers like Tlaib leading protests across the country, calling for an immediate cease-fire in the conflict.
Trump is the frequent foil of Behar and fellow liberal co-hosts on The View.
The former president days after the Hamas attack on Israel drew backlash for comments praising the terrorist organization Hezbollah as “very smart” and criticizing what he characterized as intelligence failures in Israel that led to the massacre.
