CNN fires Kathy Griffin after Trump beheading photo

Comedian Kathy Griffin has been fired from hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve celebration after she posted a photo depicting herself with a fake severed head resembling President Trump.

In a tweet Wednesday afternoon, CNN’s public relations team announced that Griffin will not appear on its high-profile live show, but didn’t give an explicit reason for her firing.

“CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” the network’s PR account confirmed.

{mosads}Griffin has since apologized for the photo.

“I crossed the line — I move the line and then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it,” Griffin said Wednesday.

Trump responded to the photo in a tweet, calling the comedian “sick.”

“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

Griffin has hosted “New Year’s Eve Live” with CNN’s Anderson Cooper since 2007. She is also listed as an executive producer on the program. Cooper also condemned his co-host over the beheading photo.
