Poll: Trump leads 2024 GOP primary trailed by Pence, DeSantis

A majority of Republican voters said they would consider voting for former President Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.

Fifty-six percent of registered Republican voters said they’d consider casting their ballots for Trump in the next GOP primary.

Twenty-eight percent said they would consider former Vice President Mike Pence, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tied for third place.

The only other person to garner double-digit consideration was former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, whom 15 percent of respondents said they would consider backing.

Other potential contenders included former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at 9 percent, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) at 8 percent and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) at 8 percent.

Seven percent said they’d considering voting for South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), while 5 percent said the same of Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.).

Six percent of voters in the survey chose someone else and another 6 percent said none of the above.

The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 957 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 3.17 percentage points.
