Democratic strategist Juanita Tolliver on Wednesday said that President Trump cannot take credit for the growing economy, and instead offered credit to the Federal Reserve.
“He’s not handling that, the fed is,” Tolliver, campaign director at the Center for American Progress, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“He’s is riding the wave of this boom quite comfortably, and honestly, whoever was elected in 2016 would be in the same position,” he continued.
The economy has continued to recover under the Trump administration, adding 250,000 jobs in October, which was above initial estimates.
Trump has repeatedly taken credit for the growing economy, citing his administration’s economic policies, but Democrats have said the growth is due to former President Obama’s policies.
The president could be facing economic roadblocks in the future with the continuing trade conflict with China, as well as recent layoffs at General Motors.
Trump signaled that he may support new tariffs on auto imports in the wake of the announcement from General Motors.
”If we did that with cars coming in, many more cars would be built here and G.M. would not be closing their plants in Ohio, Michigan & Maryland. Get smart Congress,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
