Gallego on potential 2024 bid: “I never say no to the future”

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) didn’t rule out a potential 2024 Senate bid, but said his current focus was holding onto Democratic majorities in 2022.

Gallego emerged as a favorite to potentially launch a primary challenge against Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) in 2024 as frustrations grew on the left over her opposition to much of Democrats’ large social spending package.

Speaking on Hill TV’s “Rising,” when mistakenly asked if he would run for senate during next year’s midterms, Gallego said he was running for re-election in the House.

“There’s no way Mark Kelly wins if I don’t turn out my district,” Gallego said before being asked about 2024.

“Well look, 2024 is a long time away. As you can tell by my previous answer, I’m focusing on 2022,” the congressman told Rising.

“I never say no to the future and the most important thing I always care about is having the majorities we need — the working majorities we need to accomplish good programs to actually help Americans get into the middle class and prosper,” he continued.

“Right now, I want our senator to focus on passing the Build Back Better agenda and I hope that we can all work together and get this done,” he added.
