Sara Nelson, president of the International Association of Flight Attendants, says masks are still “very critical” for limiting the spread of COVID-19 on flights.
Nelson during an interview on Hill.TV’s “Rising” responded to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who is calling for the Biden administration to lift the mask mandate for public transportation.
Cruz called on the Biden administration to “follow the science” and end the mandate for fully vaccinated individuals.
“The mask is a very critical part for layering safety,” Nelson said. “And as we know from science— it’s rich that Ted Cruz is mentioning science here — is that the masks are the most key component in helping to stop the spread of the virus.”
“We’ve been led to believe that we can’t trust the public, that we can’t trust our leaders, and Ted Cruz is continuing that dialogue. And what that’s doing is just creating conflict in our country, making people feel that they’re at odds with each other instead of mobilizing a national response like we have in other crises,” she continued.
A bipartisan group of senators recently sent a letter asking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for details on when officials will update their mask guidance for travelers.
