Gallup’s editor-in-chief joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Thursday to break down new polling showing that Americans are growing more optimistic about the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mohamed Younis told co-hosts Saagar Enjeti and Krystal Ball that Americans were generally less fearful about contracting the coronavirus than they were in the fall, when Gallup’s last survey found that roughly half of Americans worried about catching the virus.
“To put it really in one sentence: Fear, worry of the virus, of contracting the virus is down. Hope is up,” Younis said.
“Today, if you’re over 65, you’re actually much less likely to be worried about the virus, because those people have already had access to the vaccine,” he continued, adding: “We’ve also seen worry about access to testing and access to medical care dropping.”
