Hill.TV’s Saagar Enjeti defends Bernie Sanders following Joe Rogan fallout

Hill.TV host Saagar Enjeti weighed in Monday on the backlash over Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) embrace of an endorsement from popular podcast host and comedian Joe Rogan.

Enjeti specifically called out former Vice President Joe Biden and Human Rights Campaign (HRC) President Alphonso David over their negative reaction to the endorsement.

“They are cynical woke actors who don’t give a damn about Joe Rogan or Bernie Sanders,” Enjeti said.

“They want to destroy anybody who does not buy into their identitarian frame of politics,” he continued. “They’re not shy about stooping to these disgusting lows to do so.”

Enjeti’s comments come after Sanders on Thursday promoted a clip of Rogan endorsing him. The Vermont independent’s decision to tout the clip drew backlash from Twitter, with several users point to Rogan’s attacks on the transgender community, among other groups.

Biden on Friday appeared to take a jab at Sanders by tweeting in support of transgender rights amid criticism of the Rogan’s endorsement.

“Let’s be clear: Transgender equality os the civil rights issue of our time. There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights,” the former vice president said Saturday on Twitter.

David, meanwhile, said Friday he found it “disappointing” that the campaign chose to accept Rogan’s backing, pointing to the comedian’s past comments on the transgender community and people of color.

“Bernie Sanders has run a campaign unabashedly supportive of the rights of LGBTQ people. Rogan, however, has attacked transgender people, gay men, women, people of color and countless marginalized groups at every opportunity,” the HRC president wrote in a statement.
