Jim Jones, who served as former President Obama’s national security adviser, told Hill.TV on Thursday that he believes President Trump and his national security adviser, John Bolton, have a very good relationship, despite recent reports of disagreement between the two men.
“I think it’s very important that the national security adviser and the president have a very good relationship, and I think they have that,” Jones told hosts Buck Sexton and Jamal Simmons on “Rising.”
Trump and Bolton appeared to disagree last week over whether recent North Korean missile tests violated United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Bolton said on Saturday that there is “no doubt” that Pyongyang violated the resolutions and that U.S. sanctions against the country should remain in place.
However, Trump said in a tweet, “North Korea fired off some small weapons, which disturbed some of my people, and others, but not me.”
The president later doubled down, saying at a press conference in Japan that he was not “personally” bothered by the missile tests.
“They disagree on somethings, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it was intentional too,” Jones said on Thursday. “You know, the good cop, bad cop routine.”
“But I think John has the trust and confidence of the president. You don’t hear a lot of things about John that you’ve heard about his other predecessors,” he continued.
