Lewandowski: Pelosi as Speaker could prompt impeachment proceedings

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski on Thursday argued that if House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) becomes Speaker, she would “begin immediately impeachment proceedings” against President Trump, noting that will serve as a motivator for Republican voters in the midterms.

“You can choose Nancy Pelosi as the next Speaker of the House, but if you do that, what will happen is they will begin immediately impeachment proceedings of this president and that will completely stymie all the good work he [Trump] has done,” Lewandowski said on Hill.TV’s “Rising.”

Lewandowski argued that candidates who are able to localize their elections, such as Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.), will likely do well in the midterms, particularly if they can distance themselves from the minority leader.

“If it is Donald Trump versus Nancy Pelosi, the president wins that every single time, and that’s what’s going to play out this election cycle,” Lewandowski said.

Republicans have latched onto Pelosi as a main target during the midterm election cycle, with the GOP campaign arm airing ads linking Democratic hopefuls to the party leader.

A number of Democrats have indicated they would not support Pelosi as Speaker if the Democrats are able to retake control of the House in November.

Pelosi has welcomed the strategy, saying last month that winning elections is worth the cost of enduring attacks on her status as a party leader.

“Many are saying we need new leadership. I don’t take offense at that,” she said.

“I’m OK. Just win, baby.”
