Diabetes & the COVID Threat
;
The coronavirus pandemic is presenting new challenges for the 34 million Americans living with diabetes. According to a recent report from the CDC, those with underlying conditions such as diabetes are six times more likely to be hospitalized and are 12 times more likely to die as a result of contracting COVID-19. Communities of color are also disproportionately affected because of underlying socio-economic and health disparities.
At a time when the need for quality, affordable care is critical, how can those with diabetes reach their physicians, and get access to life-saving medications and devices? What policy priorities need to be put in place to ensure that diabetes management tools and resources are readily available and accessible?
The Hill brought together policymakers and health experts for a conversation about effective diabetes care during the time of COVID-19.
