As new coronavirus cases surge nationwide due to the new omicron variant, White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci has welcomed the support of former President Trump to encourage more people to get vaccinated and boosted.
“We’ll take anything we can get about getting people vaccinated,” Fauci said on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday.
“I think that his continuing to say that people should get vaccinated and articulating that to them, in my mind, is a good thing,” Fauci added. “I hope he keeps it up.”
Trump was booed by a Dallas audience on Dec. 20 when he revealed that he had gotten a coronavirus booster. He later went on to support the efficacy of the vaccines in a talk with conservative commentator Candace Owens.

The omicron variant has sent new COVID-19 cases surging in recent weeks, and Fauci said that without intervention people can expect it to continue.
“Every day it goes up and up. The last weekly average was about 150,000 and it likely will go much higher,” Fauci said.
“Vaccines and boosters, masks and now very importantly, a highly effective therapy is really going to make a major, major difference,” he added.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 61.8 percent of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
