An Italian man who attempted to use a fake arm to get a COVID-19 shot to circumvent vaccine mandates at public venues is facing charges.

A health care worker administering the jab to the 50-year-old man at a vaccine site in the northern Piedmont region initially did not suspect the trick. But then she touched the arm, noticed something was amiss, and had the man remove his shirt, according to The Guardian.

“I felt offended as a professional,” Filippa Bua reportedly told La Repubblica. “The color of the arm made me suspicious and so I asked the man to uncover the rest of his left arm. It was well made but it wasn’t the same color.”

“At first I thought I made a mistake, that it was a patient with an artificial arm,” she reportedly told La Stampa.

Italy recently announced impending vaccine measures that will prohibit entry of unvaccinated individuals into popular social settings like nightclubs, restaurants, theaters and gyms. The “super green pass,” which is set to take effect Dec. 6, requires proof of vaccination or recovery from the virus.

Alberto Cirio, the president of Piedmont, and regional health councilor Luigi Icardi lauded the health care workers’ vigilance in a joint statement, while chiding the man’s action, according to The Guardian.

“The promptness and skill of the health worker ruined the plans of this person, who will now have to respond to the judiciary,” they said.

“It is unacceptable in the face of the sacrifice that the pandemic is making the whole community pay for,” they added.

Italy recorded more than 16,800 new COVID-19 cases and 72 deaths in the past day. Slightly more than 73 percent of the country is fully vaccinated.
