Story at a glance

  • Amy Schneider has replaced Matt Amodio for the No. 2 on the list of most consecutive “Jeopardy!” wins.
  • Schneider knocked down Amodio to third on the list after she won her 39th “Jeopardy!” game Monday night.
  • Schneider became the first woman to win more than $1 million on the show and is the most successful trans player ever.

Amy Schneider has broken another “Jeopardy!” record and now has knocked out Matt Amodio for the No. 2 spot on the game show’s most consecutive wins list.

On Monday, Schneider won her 39th game and is now the second-highest all-time consecutive winner in the game show’s history.

Schneider, a software engineering manager from Oakland, beat the record set by Matt Amodio earlier this season for all-time consecutive wins. Amodio, a Ph.D student in computer science at Yale, is now No. 3 on the all-time consecutive wins list with 38 wins.

“It still feels unreal,” Schneider said in a statement, according to NBC. “Knowing that I had this chance, I was definitely thinking about it. Then Ken said it, and I thought, ‘Alright, I just accomplished this huge thing’ and it was pretty great.”

Schneider and Amodio will compete against each other on the Tournament of Champions, an annual two-week “Jeopardy!” event in which the season’s top 15 players compete against each other.

But Schneider still has a long way to go if she wants to beat the current No. 1 spot holder Ken Jennings’ record of 74 consecutive wins.

Schneider has made “Jeopardy!” history more than once. The 42-year-old became the first woman to win more than $1 million on the game show — her winning pot has surpassed $1,319,800 — and is the most successful trans player to date.
