The White House has issued a statement regarding its outreach efforts to Puerto Rico in the wake of a fatal 6.4 magnitude earthquake that rocked the island early this morning.

A statement from Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said that “The President has been briefed on the earthquakes that Puerto Rico has experienced over the past month, including the earthquake early this morning. Administration officials, including FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor, have been in touch with the Governor and her team today, and we will continue to monitor the effects and coordinate with Puerto Rico officials.”

This comes as Puerto Rican Governor Wanda Vásquez said that Trump has yet to reach out to her officials, but that she hopes his administration will soon.

Gov. Vásquez, with the authorization of the Board of Fiscal Supervision, has assigned $130 million dollars to support emergency relief programs. The island is still under a state of emergency.

“Puerto Rico has not faced a situation like this for 102 years,” she said, referring to the 1918 San Fermín earthquake that struck the island and caused mass damage.
