Multiple outlets are reporting that organizers in charge of Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2020 are discussing postponing the festival in light of the growing coronavirus outbreak in the U.S.

Originally set to occur over two weekends this spring, April 10-12 and April 17-19, the music festival may be moved to October of this year in a bid to wait out the increase of  COVID-19 cases, journalist Yashar Ali reported on Twitter.

This has yet to be corroborated publicly by AEG, an entertainment company, or Goldenvoice, the AEG subsidiary that oversees Coachella. Both Rolling Stone and Yashar Ali cite unidentified sources reportedly close to the organizers. Rolling Stone’s source said that AEG will be making a statement “within the next day.”

Multiple annual concerts, festivals or other popular events have been cancelled across the U.S. as the coronavirus spreads. Austin cancelled the South by Southwest tech conference, Boston cancelled its historic St. Patrick’s Day Parade, tech company Google cancelled an AI summit and Miami cancelled two music festivals, the Ultra Music Festival and Calle Ocho due to public health fears.

Rescheduling Coachella is a logical next step given how California has been hit particularly hard with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Dr. Nancy Messonnier of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that the majority of active cases are in California and Washington state. She believes that there will likely be more cases to emerge, as well as widespread efforts to help mitigate further community spread.
