Sen. Carper: ‘No way’ wife’s going to high school reunion without me
Sen. Tom Carper says he knows better than to let his wife go to her high school reunion without him.
The Delaware Democrat told us last Tuesday that he planned to accompany Martha, his mate of more than 25 years, to the weekend festivities near where she grew up in North Carolina.
{mosads}“If I’m not there with her, I’ll be looking for my next wife,” a chuckling Carper said.
It wasn’t long before we learned why the lawmaker was so set on being by Martha’s side as she relived her teenage years. He quickly added, “She was homecoming queen at her high school — there’s no way I’m going to let her go to the high school reunion without me.”
When questioned about which high school reunion it was, Carper, who tied the knot with his second wife in 1985, responded with a sly smile, “She’s about 30 years old. So maybe it’s the 10th or 15th or something. She’s just a kid.”
