Linsanity hits Congress
It’s amazing to think that earlier this year, Eni Faleomavaega was more famous than Jeremy Lin.
But the American Samoan delegate isn’t jealous of his fellow Asian-Pacific-American. He paid tribute to the New York Knicks point guard last week on the House floor.
{mosads}The Democrat said, “Linsanity is here with us today. On behalf of over 18 million Asian Pacific Americans, and as a member of the Asian Pacific Congressional Caucus, I rise today to commend rising NBA star Jeremy Lin … I commend Jeremy for this tremendous achievement and for his example to the world and what America is all about: You work hard, you be true to your principles of fairness and equity, things will come your way.”
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) was the first to invoke Lin on the House floor several weeks ago.
The speech on contraceptive coverage also mentioned former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), Charlie Sheen, Lou Dobbs, the cast of “Jersey Shore” and LeBron James. We would go into details on how Gutierrez connected those dots, but alas, we only have so much space.
