McConnell: I’m pro-bridge!

The most famous bridge in politics is, of course, the Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska.

But a couple of bridges that connect Ohio to Kentucky are making a run for the title.

{mosads}Chastising Congress for not investing more in infrastructure, President Obama referenced the crumbling Brent Spence Bridge in his address to Congress earlier this month.

The bridge, which connects Cincinnati to northern Kentucky, has had some problems of late. But not as many as the Sherman Minton, another Ohio-Kentucky bridge that was recently shut down because of major structural problems.

The closure has wreaked havoc on interstate commerce. And Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) said commutes have ballooned from 15 minutes to two hours.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow last week, Yarmuth criticized Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), challenging him to step up and help remedy the situation.

McConnell told ITK last week that he is pro-bridge, through and through.

“The bridge is in need of being rebuilt … there are a lot of infrastructure needs [in the state].”

To show his commitment, McConnell (without a tie!) held a press conference over the weekend with Yarmuth to highlight the need to fix the bridge.

“The issues of roads and bridges are not partisan in Washington,” McConnell said.

Well, maybe a little.
