Weiner opens up about his family life for first time since scandal

For the first time since a sexting scandal forced him from office last year, former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is giving the public a glimpse into his private life.

“I’m very happy in my present life,” the ex-congressman tells People magazine in an interview that hits newsstands Friday.

{mosads}In a family photo accompanying the article, Weiner, 47, is seen smiling with wife, Huma Abedin, and the couple’s 6-month-old son, Jordan.

Weiner resigned last June after X-rated photos and text messages the married lawmaker sent to multiple women over the Internet and via phone surfaced.

The former House member recently put the kibosh on chatter that he had plans of running for mayor of New York City next year, with a sort of non-denial denial, telling The Wall Street Journal in an email this week, “It’s a clown story, bro.”

The phrase was a reference to a similar statement Washington Nationals player Bryce Harper gave to a reporter when asked in June what beer he intended on drinking after hitting a home run. Harper replied, “That’s a clown question, bro.”

But in the latest People interview, Weiner stays mum about any potential political aspirations, saying only, “The only next dramatic steps I’m planning on are Jordan’s first.”

Abedin, the 37-year-old deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, says she’s “proud to be married” to Weiner. She says of her spouse, “Anthony has spent every day since [the scandal] trying to be the best dad and husband he can be.”

And she has a message for readers, telling the glossy mag, “It took a lot of work to get to where we are today, but I want people to know we’re a normal family.”
