‘Most Influential Women in Washington’ survey includes a guy

A high-powered executive is among a list of prominent females included in a National Journal survey of “The Most Influential Women in Washington.”

 The only problem is that “she” is actually a “he.”

{mosads} Cary Sherman’s bio on the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) website states that he’s the chairman of the group — emphasis on the “-man.” 

The online survey obtained by ITK was sent out Thursday in an email asking a group of readers for “input for a special issue National Journal is preparing on the most influential women in Washington.” The message says the poll questions will help editors select the 25 women who will ultimately be chosen for the political news mag. 

Sherman’s name is listed along with more than 30 others, including former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers, Debbie Dingell and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

 Cara Duckworth, the RIAA’s vice president of communications, laughed off the gender goof, telling us in an email, “Ha. Summer interns hard at work? We’ve let [National Journal] know about the error — and thank them for the leg up on the competition in the male version of the survey.”

Taylor West, communications director for National Journal, called the snafu an “accidental oversight in the early stage of gathering ideas for our eventual list.” 

The publication sent out a follow-up email Monday reminding folks about the survey and alerting them to the mix-up.

 West said via email to ITK, “Our apologies to Cary, who is certainly influential in Washington, but whose Y chromosome does indeed take him out of the running for our list!”
